Default torque v2. 232/234* .595/.598 on a 112lsa

I have a 99 Silverado with this cam(v2. 232/234* .595/.598 on a 112lsa)and 243 heads. well the truck is my daily, it feels really lazy. Ive had a few people tell me that this cam is too big for this 5.3. Is there any thing I could do to wake this monster up in lower rpm range. because in higher rpm it screams and moves like a beast. but off the line it is a dead beat. any help out there.?

I would think a 5.3 with that cam would need a 4k+ converter to get moving good.

it kicks in at about 3000 rpm/ it really gets moving, if still in first gear it lights up the tires in a heart beat. I am going to invest in a circle d stall, and it has 3.73 gears

since its my daily would a stall too big give me any issues in my everyday commutes. I really don't think I would like sitting at the light having to rev up too high before moving. ive heard that circle d is the best in the market when it comes to stall converters.

I don't think it is to big of a cam.
More converter, and more gear.
You just need to get the setup right
by putting a set of lower gears will drastically change the truck.
Like suggested 4.30 gear.
I know my truck is a dog from a dig. But my 4.8 Scsb is bone stock. And 342 gears is not ideal but I have a 5.3,3200 yank pro truck converter, lt's, and in the future a true trak and 4.10's. Good luck if you figure it out

Are those heads milled at all? Stock domed pistons? I bet some added compression would do you a lot of good. A stall and gears are very important for that cam in a 5.3. That cam is a monster for a 5.3 no doubt, but what is too big is based on personal opinion.

I have the same cam in my T/A with 243 heads and it pulls great with 3.73's and a shot.

I do think it is a bit too big of a cam for a DD 5.3-- you would probably get more usable power (power under the curve) if you went with something a bit smaller.

I would ask around your area to ride in or drive a vehicle with a big stall to see if it is something you can live with for a DD-- Not everyone can.
