Default Too many damned choices!

I am gonna do some kind of motor swap in the truck and I can't decide which one to do.

Choices:

1: 6.0L long block $1600. Mill and port the heads $900. Pros: It's cheap good power but wont handle much juice.

2: LS1 5.7L $1500-$2000? Mill and port heads $900. Pros: Great power and I can use LS6 intake. Cons: Wont handle much juice, not all parts from my truck will bolt directly on (more fab work).

3: Built 6.0L $2000-$2500. Stick my GTP S2 heads and Piglet cam in it. Pros: Best power handle lots of juice. Con: It's more expensive and I can't recoupe money from the sale of GTP heads.

Or I can just TRY and sell my GTP heads and that gives me $2000 to use towards any of these options. I just hate to give em up because they are such awesome heads.

I like option 3! the GTP's are nice heads!

Is an LS6 a direct swap??? I have an ls1 going in in the near future. Any more power to be had from it?

Vote for choice #1. Cheap and can handle a good amount of power, when done correctly. Nitrous is as safe as you make it. The 6.0 heads are better than LS1s by a long shot. More cubic inches is always a plus.
I have had both and would choice a 6.0 over a 5.7 anyday.

No real power advantage to the LS6. The LS6 and 6.0L heads are essentially the same and the 6.0L motor has bigger cubes and is MUCH cheaper.

Yeah. option #1 sounds good but I am worried about the condition of the motor and such since you never know exactly what you are gonna get. I just talked to my mechanic and he said he could build up a 6.0L short block fairly cheap like in option #3 but I'll just use the stock 6.0L heads till I can get em worked. I can sell my GTP stuff for a pretty penny and recoup 3/4 of the cost of the short block NP. This way i can get forged pistons and bump the compression to 11.0:1 or 10.5:1 or whatever and still be safe to run a 200shot when my fuel system is ready

What kind of "fab" work are you talking about? I just had a 5.7 LS1 put in my truck and there was no fab work required.

I went with the LS1 over the 6.0 mainly because of weight. Weight is our biggest enemy, and I can't see 0.3 of a liter making that huge of a HP difference.

My suggestion? Get an LS1!

I thought there were differences in the wiring harness which required splicing and maybe the fuel system because LS1 don't have a fuel pressure regulator but we do. That kind of stuff. I guess I was mistaken. Hehehe

Well, all you have to do is use your truck intake/accessories. That's what I did! With the stock 4.8 tune, an open rear-end, cast iron manifolds and a slipping tranny, I pulled 101mph in the 1/4! I rebuilt the motor with some safety (read: ARP) stuff and put a TR224 cam in it. So, I have some basic truck bolt ons, and a cammed LS1 that should be good for mid-low 13's on some tires.

can you put on a radix on the ls1. I am guessing so since you replace the intake when you put it on. Also how much less does the ls1 weigh compare 5.3 and 6.0.
