Chris Endres wrote an article for GMHTP (also in his book, but the article came out first) saying the 035 head was preferred over the 317 6 liter head in the FI community due to its 9.4:1 CR. He didn't take into account the CR was different due to the piston, not the head, so the article was misleading at best.
BigTex...you posted this in Forced Induction back in November.....kinda leads me to believe that the 317 and 035's aren't very different in performance (assuming the 035's actually exist on a production motor...they may be just a replacement casting only)

is a .6 CR bump and slight tuning differences really good for 45hp ??.....or are the LQ4's underrated (or are the LQ9's overrated ??)

Good question. Think about the Denali. Its the same motor you have, but its rated higher, like 325 I think. Could be just another GM game.

I'd say with the higher compression and a little hotter tune that they could justify a 45 hp difference. If the pistons are lighter, then I could see that freeing up some HP.

It would definately be worth it to change to aluminum heads. They dissapate heat much better, if you do build up the motor, they will help keep you from pinging and will help the motor run cooler. then there is the obvious weight advantage.
