Default thermostat?

I want to order a new thermostat before I order my pcm. I just dont know if I should get a 160 or 180. I'm in new orleans, so winters are mild and summers are very hot. and I also have the ls1 fans if that matters. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

160 can be a compromise in power, but the most compelling reason I've read to use it is that it typically causes a 20 degree drop in tranny temps, which is a huge advantage in tranny longevity.

if you go with a 180* it will not be fully open until ~190*. these temp marketing 'ploys' i'll call them, are just the thermostats opening temps. granted, i think there may be some on the market that may open fully as advertised, but i have yet to see one. fwiw i just bought a 180* failsafe thermo for my wife's bucket and tested it in a pan of water on the stove before installing it. it too did not fully open until 192*. this was by slowly heating to get a more accurate temp of when it opened. with that said down there in party town i would go with the 160*. i have the 160* and cruising down the highway, depending on ambient temp, i stay anywhere from 176-182*. i have my fans set to come on at 185*
