TBSS Engine Swap Ideas
#1
I don't own the truck yet, but considering getting one, I know they come stock with a LS2, I am just curious to see what kind of swaps I could do to this, I know alot of F-body Guys etc, do LSx Swaps amongst other things.
Would it be worth it to swap in a LS3 or to just get a LSx, I know some will mention the LQ9 because its a Cast Iron LS block basically.
I really have no idea what I should do, I want it to be a 10-11 sec truck, I know its possible I've seen a guy swap in a LSx Built motor and ran 9 something with it.

What is your budget and just how reliable do you want it to be? An 11 sec TBSS isn't that difficult to build and IMHO, the LS2 is just fine for that. I wouldn't spend money on swapping motors (depending on what you are looking for) just to run 11's.

It is possable as the LS series motors are quite cheap to modify and when the right parts are chosen respond very well in return.
Any GM truck based vehicle to get into the 11's needs alot work to it besides the Motor to be anywhere near reliable.
The TBSS has a 4L70 which should be built to level 5 specs as from what I hear a 4L80 requires surgury to fit. You'll also need a loose convertor 3600rpm stall, full exhaust, CAI depending on how you want to add power, and atleast 4.11 gearset with a detroit locker or maybe 2 if you have AWD.
I would take care of the weak links before looking for the big power or you will end up stranded. I have a rcsb and its weight detered me from big power till have I have the money to do everything. As I drive my truck everyday I need reliability over sheer power.
