Default Supercharger detonation Please Help

Today was the first time I got a chance to really get on it. There is tons of audible detonation at 4500 and up!!! I didnt get to see exactly how much boost it was making, but it is the stock pulley. I called Lyndon furious and he went through things with me. He said there is only 15 -16* of timing at WOT. Im using a big K&N cone and it doesnt have a heat shield. He said that was definately the reason.
Does this sound right?? I dont have any scannind software yet since I havent even gotten around to buying a Laptop yet.
I dont know of anyone with scanning tools near me either. Im not even sure if I can make changes to the PCM, since 02Denali, I believe, mentioned that they are locked.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated

Try gettin on it at night when its cool outside , that will give you an idea if that guy is right. Try some 100 octane after that, also make sure you are gettin enough fuel in that rpm range. Good luck, you'll get it .

It's a Vortech I believe .. I know it's a centrifugal blower. Do you have an intercooler with it? Where is your filter located at? You may try the stock intake and see if that helps. If the filter is sucking in hot air .. that will do it though.

Yes, Its a vortech. The filter is in the stock location, but like I said, It is a big open cone. Thanks alot for the help. I didnt know if that sounded plausable. Im planning on doing alky, but not for 6-7# of boost . Any body have any links maybe to making my own and maybe adding one of those scoops???? Thanks all

i have a 2000 vortech supercharged truck and i was running 6.5# with the stock vortech tuning with only 0.7 degrees of knock retard right before the shifts. I am also using the K&N Fipk minus the intake tube. I think the problem is something besides the filter (probably not enough fuel or to much timing) but sealing it off beter can only help. I don't think you should have to use the alky with only 6 or 7 #, I didn't have to use mine anyways.

Im pretty sure it has enough fuel as I upgraded to 43Lb injectors and specifically asked for him to tune it a little rich. He said it only had 15-16 degrees at WOT. I know of others here running quite a bit more. When I opened the hood it was so hot I had to back away. It was about 92 degrees earlier when I was driving and my totally accurate temp gauge was reading near 200. It usually reads about 175. Do you have a heat shield?? Im thinking about trying a custom intake setup with sealed box and tube.

yeah i have the stock heat shield that came with my k&N fipk i had to do a little bending to get it to fit with the vortech intake. If you dont have anykind of heat shield i could see how that might be the problem. My gets real hot under the hood also, but my temp has never gone past the 195 its supposed to be at.
