Maybe cut the bottom out of your stock box and mounting plate. Or just invest in one of the cold air kits. There was one that replaced the bottom airbox plate and located the filter under it. Can't remember what kind it was. I'll look.

This stuff is such an arduous undertaking
, but I think it will be worth it in the end. The one or two times I got on it when the engine was cool were pretty impressive!!

There is a guy near me that does the wideband/dyno tune, but $500 a shot. Im going to have him tune it for me later, but Im only running 15-16* at WOT now. Both intakes are near $300 too. For now Im thinking I can probably do something like the Procold myself or at least take a stab at it. How did you set yours up??

We only have 91 up here, and in third gear I get KR at 15 degrees sometimes. I can run 18-20 in 1st and 2nd, but 15 in 3rd is the MAX I can run. So I would say without an intercooler in the heat in third gear 15 degrees is close to the edge anyway. Did you hear it in 3rd?
Do you have a 160 stat? If not thats a good idea also.

I only stayed in it through 1st and once in 2nd and heard it both times. Im running 93 here and it is really hot and humid as I said. Wow, maybe that is a bit too much timing. Im going to give the intake some attention this week and will hook up an alky kit soon.
I have a 180 stat.
Do you think modding the stock airbox or a setup similiar to the Procold would be better??
I dont think it would be too hard to hook a 90 degree elbow to the maf and some 4' aluminum tubing and running it down near the valance opening. What do you think??

I think a procold would probably flow a little more than a modded stock box.
Is the valance opening that airdam on the bumper? Not sure I know what that is.

Thats prob the road I'll take if the fabbing doesnt go well.
Thanks for all the help, I'll be needing alot more when I get to set up that wideband!!!

I think you'd be surprised at how high the blower discharge temps are with 7psi. I'll bet they're 100-150 above ambient. If you're sucking in 150 degree air, then they'd be 200-300 degrees. That's probably the cause of your detonation.
Remember, cold air is more dense so the cooler your intake air, the more air the charger is able to shove in. So even after you have the alky hooked up, a cold air intake will help power.

I had the same exact problem with one of Lyndon's tunes and a procharger. It was occurring anywhere over 3500. He sent me a new tune that was a little richer above those rpms and it fixed the problem.

Any well equipped garage should have a Otc or snap-on handheld scanner
that could monitor, but not change, what's going on with the truck, a test drive
with the scanner would give you lots of info on iat, timing, kr , temps etc.
it wouldn't fix anything but would let you know what's up and what you need to fix.
they would charge for the time and it's a matter of finding someone with the interest to do it. would be a place to start.
