Default Stroker needs a rebuild

So motor is knocking after the nitrous backfire and after lots of reading I'm pretty sure it spun a bearing and needs a rebuild. It still runs and has good oil pressure so I hope alot of stuff can be salvaged. Would it be wise to go ahead and re-ring it or just replace the bad bearings and maybe a rod or two? What things are a must when this happens?

I'm also taking this opportunity to restall my converter to 3600, increase my compression to 11:1 if the heads need resurface, and get a custom cam to work with the victor jr.

Oh man, that totally sucks. I'll tell you that sometimes I really get sick of all the bs associated with going fast. I would just bite the bullet and go ahead and do it all just for safety. It would not be fun to spend all the downtime and the headache of a rebuild only to be disappointed and have to rip it out and do it again. Good luck to you; hope it goes well.

I would re-ring it for sure if possible, you could of damaged a piston when it back fired, and it could of scored the cylinder wall. I know this from experience.

If the motor is out, do it all IMHO.

Do you happen to have a sound clip of the knocking???

Sorry for your troubles

I would go thru it all and if there is even a question or doubt with a part i would replace it. I have had my 408 rebuilt 2 times now and it is finally right.

After alot of reading I have come to the conclusion that a FAST 90mm intake will be a better choice for me. I read that the out of the box vic jr needs to be ported and confirmed that when my head ports were larger than the victor jr ports. Also I would have to swap cams to optimize the vic jr performance and I figure that the $400 cam savings and $450 that I can get for the victor jr and elbow will pay for a fast intake. This time around I'm going to make my truck more track oriented instead of daily driver. I currently have 10.5 compression and would like to know if 11.5 or 11 would be better. Also, what stall would you guys do for maximum launch and still be OK on the streets. Are there any upgrades I should do so I can spin the motor to 7k and not have worries? I already have patriot dual springs, and harland sharp 1.8 rockers.

go ahead do restall it to 4000 on the converter, with your 4l80e you need more lowend so upping the converter is good..., sounds like a good idea on fast intake, and of course the higher compression will be better, i believe you can still get away with 11.5 on pump gas (not really sure, need to ask around)...
