Default Stroke out My 4.8 to 5.3

How hard would it be to stroke my 4.8 out to a 5.3 and would it be worth it?? All I would need would be a crank and rods . . . right??

What is entailed in this job, as I already have my heads off and cam removed . . .

Where can I find a crank for sale?? Anybody know of one??

Thanks!!!

might be more cost effective to locate a low mileage 6.0 long block.

Default Help!!!!

Are you guys saying that due to TIME or money??

If I can get the 5.3 short block for $150, and throw all my current crap in that motor . . . i've gone up cubic inches for pretty cheap right??

Fill me in here . . . what am I missing . . . I'm a college student on a budget, but I have the tools required to do this work myself I think . . . thats why I THINK (think being the keyword) that this makes sense . . . does it not??

What would you guys do with a 4.8 5-speed if you had about $800??

I've got an LS-6 Cam and Springs for sale which I hope to bring $250 or more, so I plan on buying a comp cam 220/224 .530-.534 LSA 112

I just bought some fans off of a LS1 Camaro to put on soon to match my 160 thermostat which I installed a while back.

I've got a guy who will port and polish my heads for $400 and guarantee 30 HP.

NELSON TUNE COMES LAST . . . SO does this 5.3 short block not sound like a good deal?? Like I said, I don't know this stuff like you guys do HELP!!!

don't mess with the 4.8 and stroken it to 5.3 it's just not worth it. Check his shortblock out and if everything looks ok go with that for cheap install you cam and heads on it and you will be good to go. Really don't even mess witht he 4.8 it will just cost to much time and money and your not going to get much more out of it. As they said a 6.0 can be had for around 1000 if (Bigtex) still has his. Their's just a few thing you have to consider(materials, labor, time, money, parts)

you could also punch the 4.8 to a 4 inch bore, install 6.0 pistons & an ls1 crank & rods. you would need to have the block sonic tested beforehand but if all is well you now have an iron block ls1 with 6.0 pistons

Carazycutter4.8 there's absolutely no way a 4.8 or 5.3 will accomodate a 4"bore.
