Are the 80Es plagued with similar issues? Starting to get parts together for an 80E swap on my triple S, don't want to go through this drama and since I will need the different flexplate anyway it might be worth it to upgrade.

I used a SFI flexplate with my 60 and 80 both. I have heard of fewer 80E flexplate failures but they still break. IMO if you've got it apart there's no reason not to swap one in. I got one from Yank when I ordered my last converter for a little additional cost.

For years Ive read of people cracking these things and Im still on my stock flexplate after 5 motors, and twice that many transmissions. With big stalls, little stalls, big hp, little hp, and still no problems. and the damn thing is 10 years old and has almost 200K miles on it. With that said I bought a tci flexplate to throw on at some point in time since it was used and cheap.
