Not unless you got a big old gal in the passenger seat, and I mean big! A 2005 2500 hd longbed has a curb weight of 6018lbs

Actually they use both rear ends. I think they only put the 10.5" behind all the 6.0 trucks and the 11.5" is behind the big block and the duramax trucks.

those 11.5" rear ends are HUGE

My 6.0 has a 11.5" ring gear. I know the 2500hd and 3500hd have the 11.5 regardless of motor size, im not as familiar with the 1500hd though. The old ring gear is most likely found in the non HD 2500 trucks and in the 1/2 ton 6.0 applications.

all i know is every big block and diesel ive seen has the 11.5" and my brothers 2500HD 2wd 6.0 has the 10.5" rear.

As far as which truck to buy, I love my SS and I love the AWD. The AWD was my selling point for that truck because I knew I was gonna do some kind of power adder and I wanted to not have to ever worry about traction. Its been the best part about the truck. And it really suprises people when they hear its AWD.

The only reason I would say to buy a different truck would be if you wanted a 2wd or were planning on buying a crew cab. That is one thing I do wish i had is a crew cab. Its so much more convenient, but oh well.
