Installed a K&N drop-in on my truck
After about 400 miles I noticed a difference in the mid-range and WOT but part throttle low RPM seems like I lost just a little. is that normal to loose a little on the bottom end??

Well, I went to the track one night and ran both a Purolator paper filter and a K&N in the stock box, this was with my 00 Silverado when I had it. Each run, the truck ran a little quicker with the Purolator filter installed. My 60', 330' and the rest were all slightly quicker. Several Ram owner have shown the K&N drop in filter to show about a 3 hp and 3 tq LOSS on the Hemi engine. I saw on the net one time where a BMW owner dynoed his stock filter and a K&N, the K&N lost power there too! I don't use one, I use paper.

You may be like me -- I'm real sensitive to little changes like that.
I notice things like that when I changed around my airbox setup in my old truck. For a while here I was running and AFE filter that seemed to work pretty good... but I feel as though the paper filter in a stock intake setup provides the best extreme low end and throttle responce off the bottom.
I'm not quite sure why it is. My theory is that it effects the calibration or the airflow across the MAF. That thing is extremely sensitive. You can really throw things off by starting your truck with the airbox lid off - picking it up off the filter - and waving your finger in front of the MAF.
FWIW, I scan on average about 10ft/lbs more up past 5,000rpm, with the cotton gauze filter in my truck.

It must be MAF-PCM(ECM) related because to increase flow and get a decrease in hp/tq nothing else seems to make any sense.
