Default Smaller cams make more power in 5.3 trucks

I talked to some speed shops and they told me in a ex cab 4x4 5.3 that the 210-218 duration cams make more power then the 224 228 cams. I thought that was interesting because I always thought bigger made more power. They said that in a 5000 lbs truck the 224 cam will be a complete terd and a 210-218 will be an animal all the way to 6000 rpm. Let me know what you guys all think about this. I Know I know another cam thread. But you opinions are apreciated anyways, Thanks, Jared

The larger cam might make more power if you could spin it high enough to take advantage of where the power band will be.
On the other hand the smaller cam will make more usable power at a lower rpm.

the bigger cams will make more power, but the smaller cams will put the power where it needs it which will make for better performance.

yah its true. A bigger cam doesnt always mean more power unless you have the right supporting mods of internals and major head work. People on here mainly get a big cam for the sound...but are then forced to run a very large stall of 3000+ rpm.

Im running a 212/218 fully bolted on...Going to the dyno within the enxt two weeks...let you know whow it goes...

you dont necessary need head work or heads to work with large cams. there are a few cams out there that are designed to run specifically on stock motors....ie TREX, MS3 but yes you will need supporting mods like stall/gear

the weight of a vehicle has nothing to do wit hthe amount of power a motor makes. only thing it reflects is the curve of which useable and non usable power is.

He actually dyno'd 331hp Dyno chart , still very respectable and he also has the benefit of undoubtably one of the best tuners in the world
