slight over heating problem.....need help
#1
well it's when i am in my truck and sitting in a parking lot w/ the AC on typing in my orders for work. i'll probably be in my truck just sitting there and the gauge will creep up and pass the stock temp. right now i have a 160* thermostat but i never hear it opening up or whatever that loud clicking noise is when you have the AC on. anyways do you think that the thermostat could be brocken? the thermostat is probably 4 years old. what should i do? any advice would be appreciated. as soon as i start driving it drops back down but it is still above the 160 or i guess 180* mark. thanks for the help...

at this time of year that 160 stat is the wrong temp with the triple digits soon to come.
right now the average temp in south Texas is 95 during the day and your stock fan is not pulling in enough air at idol with 95 degree air to pull through the radiator.
weather man tells you the out side air temp is 95 degrees, that is 95 degrees C.
C is for Celsius. water boils at 100 degrees Celsius on your stove.
your temp gauge reads the temp in F. as in 160 F.
F is for Fahrenheit, water boils at 210 Fahrenheit in your block.
air water
temp temp
100 C = 210 F
90 C = 189 F
80 C = 168 F
70 C = 147 F
60 C = 126 F
50 C = 105 F
if the air temp for the day is 95 C, that is 199.5 F in the shade the air is cooler.
you have a 160 F stat in your block, the air temp is 199.5 F.
how do you expect to cool down the motor sitting at idol, very low air speed from the stock fan, and no air being pushed from movement.
here in south Texas the end of July and August the out side air temps will reach 101 C to 107 C, that is 212 F to 224.7 F, with that 160 F stat your going to have a hard time keeping it cool sitting at the red lights or in stop and go traffic.
major rule of thumb, if your going to run the lower temps you have to run the larger radiator.
a single core just will not cut it with the high air temps we have to face ever year.

Yeah, but its read in fahrenheit!!! NOT celsius... if you need proof of that go buy a thermometer and you'll see... I have one right next to me and there isnt even 200* on it
Besides you know it says 210f on the truck temp gauge right!!?? Well have you ever felt the radiator hose when the temps are that high?? If you have you would know there is no way possible to LIVE in 210*F
Now to the question at hand...The AC causes alot of heat anyway!! If you're AC is not on it should drop back down to normal temps. If you dont have elec fans then your lucky that it even drops down when your moving
Mine b4 the e fans would climb to 210 and then stay there even after I turned the AC off.

have you stuck your hand in a pot of boiling water, it is only at 100 degrees Celsius on top of your stove,
it does not matter if the temp gauge is, Celsius, Fahrenheit, or Kelvin.
water will boil at the same temp every time, weather it is 100 Celsius, 210 Fahrenheit, or over 300 Kelvin.
and yes it is very possible to live at 210 Fahrenheit because it is the same temp as 100 Celsius, look up the charts on the net.
we see the triple digits every single year, and every year we hear about people on the news that died from the heat.
if the weather man gave out temp in Fahrenheit we would be freezing our asses off.

I would never stick my hand in boiling water and if you have then you're nuts!! The steam alone is enough to detour me away. Yes water boils at 100* celsius but that doesnt mean that its 100* celsius outside nor 90* c for that matter. Then you say:
