??service 4wd Message??
#1
Had this message come up breifly Saturday upon start up.
Anyone know what this might be linked to?
The light did not come up again.
About a week ago when rotating my tires I noticed my left front rim had allot more crud built up in it, other than brake dust that is.

I Dont Know What It Is But Mine Has Come On A Couple Of Times Also. Mine Is Push Button 4wd And When It Came On It Wouldn't Let Me Shift Into 4wd At All. But I Killed It And Cranked It Back Up And It Worked Just Fine. Weird!

Same thing here...It came on about 2 or 3 months ago as soon as i started the truck for about 20 minutes one day even while i was driving. When I got home, i restarted and it still wouldn't go off, so i did some stuff around the house for an hour or so, and went back out and restarted again, and everything was fine. I have used the fourwheel drive about 4 to 5 times since and it still works great. I have pushbutton 4x4 too and it also wouldn't let me shift into fourwheel drive or anything due to the fact that there was not light to show what gear i was in (2, 4Hi, or 4lo). But everything is working fine now so i wouldn't worry about it too much.

not sure about the 2004 guys but the first guy is 2002...the 99 to 2002's are known for having a bad switch here and there. (Mine did). The light will come on when you have hit whatever mileage needed to warrant a servicing...but it shouldn't affect the ability to go into 4wd. The bad switch will obviously affect this ability. You guys still in warranty? (I am sure the sts doesn't have a chance for warranty unless it is definitely just the switch)...mine was fixed under warranty...when it was still under warranty.

The 4wd switch in the dash is poorly constructed and will eventually light your service 4wd warning on your dash unless gm decided to redesign it.
As i recall the switch costs about $40-$60 at a dealer however if you can solder well you can just fix it yourself, the problem lies in the solder points at the connection pins.
This is an easy fix especially since the dash just snaps apart no tools other than fingers and care required.
