Default Retaining Cats

I just bought LT headers, but I need to retain my cats. How did you guys go about doing this?

I have to pass a visual, so perhaps I can just make it look like they're still there.

i bought the p/s ory and extended it past the tranny x-member and welded the cats on both sides before it went into the y. it's odbII compliant and didn't give me any ses problems unless you dont extend the right rear o2 sensor

I was running a super40 after the y, but it was a lil quiet so I took it off and it's decently loud with the lt's, ory, and the 2 cats. whatever tickles your pickle man...

Did you have to do much pipe bending to get this to fit? Or did it just push the ory back a few inches?

it pushed the ORY back a decent amount... I can't really tell you how much off the top o' my head, but I'd say about 14.5niner inches lol. Getting the ORY extended aint no thang, muffler shop should only charge about 100 bux for labor/materials to extend the ory and weld the muffler/install the other **** except the headers, just give em the ory/clamps/muffler and let em do the magic. oh and a real important thing is to get some good stainless exhaust clamps, the ones that come with the ory are suitable for the muffler clamping, but to do it right the first time around get some dynomax or walker stainless steel band clamps with dual bolts for the headers... oh and dont forget your miller juice....

Thanks, but the muffler shops here will not touch cats. Something about a federal law to move, or remove the cats, except to replace in the same location (relative to the truck.) I have a wirefeed and can weld, I just can't bend pipe.

I just need my exhaust to look semi-factory. Do you think I could put 1 cat further down the line, say in front of the muffler?

yeah... shouldn't be a problem. just goto a muffler shop/auto shop and buy some aluminized 3" tubing and chop the ory about 6 inches after the collector and add the necessary tubing, then just weld it up with the cats in there somewhere, it's best to have both cats with relatively stock orientation for the o2 sensors. if you want it to look stock and function as stock (as far as ses lights are concerned) u need both cats

btw what state are you in? most of them just bs you into that kind of ****, but down here if you find the right shop that knows what they're doing they'll hook you up. I personally would weld it myself, but all I have is a TIG and stick rig now, no more wirefeed, it went back to my buddy's house lol.

I'm in Alaska. There are only a few shops in town, save for meineke. The others are less than reputable, save for 2. 1 already said he wouldn't touch the cats. The other wants an arm and a leg.

I will have to test fit everything and perhaps just have the muffler shop bend the pipe I pre-measured.

The headers haven't arrived yet and I did not order an ory. Should I order one up and hack into that, or should I just use the stocker?
