Default removed stock airbox

ok, here is the deal, i did the free airbox mod, free air tube mod, along with all the other fre mods, and had a drop in K&N air filter. well, after playing around, i decided to get rid of the air box all together. So i yanked it out. Strapped the filter to the lid of the upper box and went for a drive. About 300 miles later, It all stays in place and seems a lot more responsive to before, and trust me, any improvement over stock is well worth it. It never came loose or nothing like that. Only down side is after such said three hundred miles, the filter is a whole hell of a lot dirtier. Leading me to believe it is getting more air over the entire surface of the filter. (before with stock air box it would only get dirty in the middle and not really dirty) OK, cool right, all i did was remove the lower half and turn the upper half upside down and sort of position it to the front. with a few clips the fliter stays in place. truck picks up even better. is this a decent way to mod or stupid way to mod. never seen this before, so you tell me.

how did you fasten the filter to the top of the intake tube. what clips did you use, or what did they look like? not sure how i would secure the filter in place.
