a stall converter will allow you to bring the engine rpm's to a specified or near specified rpm in which to launch at instead of a dead stop 800 rpm launch. hince you will be closer to or in your power range of the cam in which you choose to run. ls1 edit is a program which lets you tune the computer to run better to your mods. if you do not know how to use edit and dont have a laptop then i would suggest getting someone to tune it for you. i think all that is right.others will chime in and you will get some more explanations that will assist you better.

what he said but also you need a converter when you install a big cam. for instance my truck idles at 1000rpms and i have a 3000 stall. with the factory stall the truck would want to take off. a converter is prob one of the best performance mods you can do for the money.
also about edit you will need more than just edit you will need auto tap or something to monitor then of course the computer. those 3 things alone will run about 2grand.

No it doesnt mean that it means you know where your truck normally launches at. Well now it will lock up at 3000 rpms or whatever style convertor you get. When you gas it from dead stop your engine will go to 3000rpms and launch you from there is what hes saying.Have you ever driven stick...well its the same conecpt you gas it to what ever rpm you want then dump the clutch and it goes right!! And the higher the rpms are when you drop the clutch the better your launch ok!! So the convertor is going to do just that but with an auto tranny instead of stick it will launch you from higher rpm and you will get better response off the line.

Also you shouldn't really go with a cam unless you know exactley what you're going to be doing in the long run. Some cams are made to work specifically for N/A applications others for N2O and some are better for turbo and S/C applications so you need to figure out a rought b4 you start!

I would wait on the convertor for now even though it is one of the best mods you can pick up. Because some applications might not require a high stall TC. Espescially if you already have it set up to make power down on the low end of the rpm band which in most cases you launch to high into your power band and you get alot of wheel spin off the line. unless of course you get bigger tires!

no you will give it a little more gas than you did with a stock converter. you notice a converter more when you have a low gear like i have 3.42's so it takes a little more to get going than with a 3.73 or a 4.10. the best thing for you to do is find some one with a stall in there car and ride in it.
