I think it's a great idea!!.....I also think ARP or Katech rod bolts are a great idea too if you decide to go this way, cause you're gonna be seeing 6500rpms ALOT with this cam !!

Yes, you better plan on 6500 + rpm with that cam. So really good valve springs and rod bolts are a must to make it live a happy life.

i talked to a few guys at HPE yesterday and they said it was going to be very hard to get my heavy truck into the 12s, they said the only way i could do it was to build up a 408, what do you all think? i think it can be done with a LQ9 without having to be stroked or SC

Does that mean you had your mind made up first and were just looking for someone to agree with you, or were you actually looking for opinions?

v8 has a 5.3 scsb with cam and bolt on's running 12.5's so I see no probs with you running 12's. I bought a 230/236 .591/.601 on a 110lsa. I am running a LQ9 with 11.1 compression using patriot stage 2 LS6 heads with a 64cc chamber. I love to go against the grain, I was told this cam is to big for a truck but I decided I wanted it anyway after talking to allen. I am going to try and get into the 11's with mine.

Hate to say this but HPE is more oriented with F bodies and stangs and I doubt they know half of what Allen knows as far as trucks are concerned. Plus they are way overpriced IMO 02Denali got into the 12s with a cammed 5.3 with a shot of gas in an ex cab. Arent you planning on running a shot as well? With a cam, gas, lq9, stall, gears, slicks, and the usual other little tricks, you should hit the 12s pretty easily.

a little bit of both, i pretty much had my mind setup, i knew most people were going to say it was too big, but after talking to allen, and a few other people on here through PM, they think it was pretty good idea, so and being different isnt overrated, granted everyone is gonna already have the mods u have, but damn, lets say 50 people on the forum have cams, a good 40 of those people have either a 220/220 or a 224/224 cam, im tired of seeing those cams, im gunna go big and its gunna be good, hopefully it will push me into the 12s, mods will be:
LQ9
4.11 gears
eaton posi
100 shot or maybe a 150
slicks (if that counts as mod)
true dual exhaust with LTS
3200 stall, maybe yank or fuddle
vette servo
Transgo shift kit
built 4L65e
228/232 .585/.595 113LSA with XER lobes, maybe with a 113+2 LSA

I think that list may get my fat girl into the 12s
