Default Question

I have a 2005 ECSB silverado with the L33 engine. a thousand or so miles ago the oil pump bypass got stuck open (started truck a few times with no pressure no knowing what was going on and not sure what damage may have happened, dealer claims cranks bearings looked new when they checked them with the oil pan off) and I paid the dealer to fix as I had no time or place to tear it apart. 1400 dollars later, and now with close to 22,000 miles on it, the oil was black and has little bits of metal in it(20 percent of oil life used and 80% left)... I have a filtermag on the filter and it had some metal, but the oil just looks bad... I put 1000 miles on the oil. It never looked like this until the oil pump was changed. Now the truck sounds like a bad knock on start up like a lifter or rod... It is in the dealer again and they coulnd't duplicate the problem. I told them keep it for another week and start it up everyday as it only happens when it sits overnight. Also my new oil pump has the pressure when hot around 20-25 at idle is that okay? My gm service manuals say yes, but it seem low and when it is cold around 1800 rpm only about 40psi. Just curious what you think and if they change the lifters out which is what they are thinking what about the cam? Do you change one with out the other? That just sounds like a bad idea.... Thanks for the help.

you shouldnt need to change the cam if the lifters failed.. unless the cam got all scarred up...... but man for 1400 bucks you could have thrown a 6.0 in there

true true ,but on the L33 not worth the $ IMO that L33 is the high output 5.3 on a good cam ,stalled and milling those 799's he should keep up to A CAMMED LQ4!

The problem is I needed the truck and I only have a one car garage and couldn't afford the time and or space as my truck won't fit in the garage and I live in a condo.... I have the tools and the books, but was under the gun. On a better note the GF paid for it as a christmas gift. The truck only has about 22,000 miles on it.... I was thinking of just trading it in and a new gmc sierra 1500 ECSB, but since it is paid off and in 5 years I will have 100,000 miles or 40,000 and then be ready to put down 25,000 cash on a new truck and sell mine for 5-7,000 with all the parts.... The nav and cadillac gauge cluster and shift arm, TA cover and a few other things were a lot of money and I have my stock tires and wheels sitting in the garage with 15,000 miles on them. The truck is a fully loaded LT with sunroof and 4x4. Some pics of the beast...

I got the dealer who messed up some crap to give me a free bedliner.

Just put the new shocks and magnaflows on it as well....

Update on my truck, 2000 miles after the oil pump went out for 4 seconds the engine would knock like a lifter problem... Here is what the dealer said...

They said the cam was scared and so were the lifters and crank.... I do have an extended warranty this time would you argue for a new engine? I think so since the engine oil I paid to have analyzed came back failed because of metal and stuff in it....

Here are pics from the dealer... now I have 22,600 miles on the truck...

On a better note, the dealer said the warranty will cover new lifters and a new cam, and they are going to eat a new crankshaft and new bearings for everything the only that will be used is the pistons/rings and heads, but since they are mine from the truck and only have 22,600 miles they should be fine. They said they will give me a 3 year 36,000 miles warannty on the work and I am out zero out of pocket.

Well if you are not going to be paying for anything then go for it. Good luck!
