Default Question

Hi:

I am new to the site. I have a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab 4.8L. I just installed the K&N cold air intake. The trucks still feels a little bit heavy. I wanted to know if I change out the factory mass air flow sensor to an upgraded one would it make a differance? I am open to suggestions!

Thanks:
Great site...

No it wont help, the Factory MAF sensor is fine for just about any mods that you do. Did you disconnect the battery negative terminal while you installed the CAI? You must do so for the computer to relearn the curves with more air flow.

You might consider an aftermarket CAT back exhaust as your next mod. The stock exhaust is very restrictive and now that you have more air available to go in, you need to have a way for it to get out.

After that just about everyone is going to tell you the best MOD for your money is going to be a custom tune. Tuners are available from any sponsor listed to the right>>>>>.

Many people go with Wheatley tunes, and if you look at this signatures of most people it will show you other tuners that have been used.

Hope it helps.

Oh, and welcome to the site.

I have a Wheatley tune and love it. Where do you live? Find the closest.

I'd agree. Full exhaust and a tune will wake up your truck

defineately do the tune and exhaust. i have a custom dyno tune which is much more agressive than many mail order tunes and it was money well spent.

sprayed8 is right, custom dyno tunes are FAR better than a mail order. If you're really wanting to get into it I'd recommend purchasing the tuning software (ie HPTuners, EFILive, LS1Edit) and have a shop dynotune the truck with your software. Not a whole lot of shops do this, but if you find the right shop they'll work with you in the pursuit of tuning your own vehicle. If you're confident in your abilities you can read a lot of the guides that are already written on how to tune your own vehicle with the software. I took this route since I plan to heavily mod in the future and want to know how to tune it. I followed all the guides and made my own tweaks on the way and my first dyno showed that I learned something lol. Anyways, check all of your options first before jumping into something.

Thanks, for the 411

I forgot to mention that I installed a BORLA Exhaust, and am about to install a Super Chip. Or should I go with the Tune? what are the pro and cons for the two.

Ditch the Superchip and go for the custom tune...the handhelds are generic and limited, while good tuners make many more adjustments and change more parameters than the handhelds. Alot of the tuning pros offer free upgrades for life, so as you do more mods you can have the PCM adjusted for free. Many of the good tuners are the same price or cheaper than the handhelds also.

I have a PCMforLess tune and I love it...too bad they're not a sponsor here (they were for a short while). Nelson is hands down the favorite on this site, I've read alot of good things about him. I have the Nelson efan harness and must say that I got excellent customer service and quick shipping on the part...no complaints here.

Not doubting this at all, but why does one need to do this? Does it reset a signal to the PCM or something?
