Gator - I guess that EGT probe could be hooked up just for the purpose of monitoring exhaust temps. I can see how just hooking the guage up wouldn't void the warranty. I can understand now how it wouldn't void the warranty. Just because it's hooked up doesn't mean it is being used with a power box. Thanks, I'll tell him that and try to get him to put it in.

If it ever needs to go in for work the edge box and monitor would come off.

i am just trying to help out, because our EGT shoot up to 1300 degrees in a matter of a few seconds under load at level 5 on our box. that is turbo cookin temps! the box does have built in protection but it isnt everything. you have to monitor it to be safe. longevity is a major reason to buy the diesel (other than 800 rwtq with a programer

I appreciate it. I will try to push the fact that it won't void the warranty by itself and get him to put it in. His main purposes for buying the diesel was mileage and longevity so he will probably give in.

I bought the thing for him so I don't want to be the cause of blowing up his truck.

Glad to here you like it. We have Edge on our 04 3500 LB7 and it made it a whole different beast. If you ever get the EGT probe hooked up you can see how fast the EGT's climb..Especially when pulling a load.

You guys that have drilled the EGT probe hole, did you use a magnetized drill bit like Edge says to use or just a bunch of grease or something on the bit to catch the shavings?

Grease and I made sure it was running while I drilled.I don't know if he plans on towing anything, but if so pyro is mandatory.I can get my EGT's to shoot up to 1300 deg in a couple seconds towing 15,000 lbs on level 4.I have had mine set on 4 from the day I put it on,31,000 miles ago.

This might help you put the Guage's on..
I just linked it>>http://www.kennedydiesel.com/
Go to tech tips..

"Drill/Tap sizes
Drill size recommendations can vary from mfr. to mfr. so check for markings on the tap. Typically, 11/32” is appropriate for 1/8” NPT, and 7/16” is appropriate for ¼” NPT"

It took me 1 hr to install the EGT. Pull all the snaps in the plastic fender liner, then remove fender completely. You will have SO much room to work, that it's a breeze.

Like above, let engine idle while you drill. Start with a smaller drill (1/4"), then open it up to size. The material is only 1/8" thick! Use lots of oil when you tap, and back the tap up a bit every 1/2 turn to break chips.

Powerbraking the Duramax with a box will make you see God. Few street cars can touch you in the 100 yard dash.

Yeah, I've drilled/tapped plenty of stuff so that's no big deal. Thanks for the tips though.

I will have to try that powerbraking thing.
