I took my Dads LLY D-Max and installed the Edge juice box the other day. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!
He didn't want to drill the exhaust manifold so the temp probe is not hooked up but, I don't think he really wants anymore power now anyway. Set on level 3(70hp/170tq) the thing is a BEAST!
1st gear WOT - Hmmm....not much, about like stock.
2nd gear WOT - Hmmm....starting to feel something as the rpms come up
End of 2nd, all of 3rd+ - HOLY CRAP!! This thing is TAKING OFF!!
Drive back to make another pass in the "test" parking lot
. Well, I didn't notice it spinning but, there are the black marks saying otherwise.
I drove it first and told him to be careful from now on when he passes someone cause the truck gets up and goes MUCH quicker now. Give it enough throttle to kick down a gear and you're GONE.
I can't believe the difference, it's mind boggling.

I'm not going to get one James, gonna stay gasser.
I think I'll turn it down to the second setting, he really doesn't want to hook that probe up. Too bad GM didn't put one in in the first place. Is it really bad to not have the sensor hooked up even on the lower settings? I know on the higher settings it's pretty much required.
If I ever borrow the truck again I'll try and get a clip of it.

Why is he so unwilling to install the probe?

first EGT wont cook the pistons or even really effect the rotating assembly. the nature of diesel fuel. it will however burn out that turbo fast. i can NOT express how important it is to monitor that pyrometer. the added timing and pressure in that program are very aggressive. if he pulls loads it is very important. esp because i know humans, and eventually he will get bored with level 2, then 3, then well....we all knows what happens. also you have the attitude monitor, heck that is half the coolness as now you dont have to run a seperate set of gauges. it wont effect teh warranty (the pyrometer line). the juice itself, well that goes without saying.
as for it not hammering in first gear, try out that tranny break. hold the rpms to about 2000 rpms and THEN floor it. just hitting it from idle, the turbo isnt spooled up and is trying to move that 7200Lbs beast. spool up that turbo and let it scream. the smoke will be there too! lol. enjoy it. we love the LB7 Hot Juice w/ Attitude in our family.

He doesn't want to have the warranty voided if he ever takes it in for any work. Pretty easy to spot a probe in the exhaust.
I understand the purpose of the probe, just looking for what type of power gains require it to keep things under control. He doesn't tow anything really, just bought the truck for gas mileage really. It's getting 4mpg better mileage and diesel is up to $.40/gallon cheaper. He lays down quite a few miles and that adds up. Probably better to have the box on 1 or 2 for better mileage anyway.
Where's the couple D-max guys around here?

well ok, sounds like you are set on this. but having a pyrometer line wont affect the warranty. not one bit. in fact, it is encouraged on diesels. ofcourse what that line is connected to (the atitutde monitor is a service managers enemy). most people have no idea how hard that turbo works with pressure and timing boxes. good luck.
the D-Max guys (i am one of them) are around, they will post more on monday i am sure. i absolutely love the motor and tranny. get that biotch on the dyno and join us in the 400/800 club with the Edge programer.
