Problems after tt3000 install
#1
Well I installed my tt3000 yesterday and had absolutely no problems. The install took only 4 hours with a beer break or two. Anyway the problem I have now is from 40 - 50 mph the trans Locks and unlocks every few seconds. Its sort of irritating b/c i drive that speed for around 2 miles to get to my house. Is there a way to have the truck tuned to lock up at a certain speed and not unlock untill a certain map % or tps %?? Ill go ahead and get it tuned if i can but if I have to deal with the Lock and unlock problem Im taking it out.Other than that i dont have any problems. The lauch feels great and I love the shift extention now. I have to agree with everyone though; It will take some time to get used to. :Relavent info: converter is yank truck thruster 3000. I bought it used from a friend so converter has been broken in. converter only had 7k miles on it when it was taken out.

Tuning will not stop it. It's not completely locking and unlocking, it's pulsing. A transgo shift kit will fix it. Mine did the samething and Mike at Yank explained to me exactly what it was doing.

I guess I misunderstood the problem.

I would suggest eliminating the pulse-width modulation function for the torque converter circuit.
Stock torque converters have carbon-fibre clutches to tollerate a tiny bit of constant slip. GM engineers did this to smooth out engine pulses being transmitted through the driveline. The PCM tries to keep the converter just on the virge of being fully locked up, but not quite.
Used with an aftermarket converter this "feature" is pure crap.
To remove the PWM, drop the valve body....

Remove the clip for the pulse valve. (be careful, this valve is spring-loaded and will try fly out)
Remove the pulse valve and replace the spring with something much heavier. No need to be picky, the object here is to totally prevent this valve from cycling.

When done it will feel like a 700R4 lockup.
The paper gaskets above and below the separator plate should not be re-used. If you don't have a TransGo shift kit in it now's the time to do it. Valve body removal is the biggest part of the install. Dropping the valve body is not hard but it's time consuming. Some reference material would be helpful to assist with bolt torque and sequence putting it back together.
