Here's a crazy thought! Why not put those spacers back in since the band is worn now? Would it be worth a shot?

What material is that band made of? I think there's a few available. Kevlar and a standard friction base. I remember reading that one is better than the other...I'd think the black kevlar would be better. You just want the bigger band anchor to hold the capacity.

I tried the spacers ... still has a little slippage to it. I added one today before the rain started. I will try the other one tomorrow if I get a chance.

The one he is suggesting is the Pro Series band that has a black kevlar type lining. He said they use it in all of their tranny's no matter stock or high HP build.

So you have only one of those spacers in there now?

Black Kevlar just sounds like it'd be badass!

You said you are gonna do the rebuild this weekend? Damnit I am going to Houston this weekend to fart around. I was hopin to scope out a rebuild for ideas and such.

Heh ... I was planning on a cam and spring change this weekend, but this has me thinking otherwise. My GF is off tomorrow, and I think we are going to Shreveport to pick some stuff up. I gotta call up my friuend who always helps me with stuff and see what he thinks about rebuilding a tranny, so prolly this weekend. I am gonna try and be ready to go to the track the following weekend. Maybe a low 13 or 12 planned.

The spacers that I messed up on go on the side in the servo assembly. They are for used and worn transmissions, which mine wasn't at the time.

I used the Transgo-HD kit. There was nothing in the instructions about older trannys. In my instructions, you put the spacers in. You ensure that the servo cover still moves freely, if so, you move on. If not, you remove spacers until the free movement is attained. The HD kit comes with a corvette servo also.

I am thinking they might be right .. This would make the 2nd band I've burnt up, and I have always heard the 3/4 is weak. My only other concerns are the pump and the input shaft on the drum. What do ya'll think?
well, that was also on tranny #1 (which was stock) with the old 4.8 and S/C. they still worked, but, when it was taken apart they were obviously burned pretty bad. i took it apart for the same reason you did, no more 2nd gear. and as far as tranny #2, it was fully built and only lasted 3k miles after the 408 got installed. it tore out ALL of the teeth in the drum. i am now on tranny #3, we'll see how long this one lasts then do a "80" swap or something else. damn, gotta pay to play i guess.

Ben, my clearance checks checked out OK. You could still wiggle the band on the inside of the drum, and the servo cover still moved a little. Once I ran it though, the servo cover was a bitch to get off and I then realized that something wasn't right.

TT .. That makes sense ... I burned all of the clutches up like that when I dropped the blower in my old truck. Hmmm ... remembering that, I think I am gonna go with the hellacious forward clutches.
