Ben, I have everything on your list except the Torque Drive thing and the spring and the servo release valve. I want to keep this a cheap build up. I think if the shifts aren't overly jaw-jerking I will be ok with the stock shafts.

How did you fry the forward clutches? They are telling me to stick with stock type clutches for the 1st gear set. They say the heavy duty pack is to much for street use.
I am thinking they might be right .. This would make the 2nd band I've burnt up, and I have always heard the 3/4 is weak. My only other concerns are the pump and the input shaft on the drum. What do ya'll think?

Make sure if you get the band it's the stock width...I believe their is a wider band that will require a special drum. Maybe the 13 vane pump setup too. Can you swing a billet servo or two?
I paid $14 for my ATSG book...
BTW... when you decide to take this ***** out and rebuild it, I'd be up with lending a set of hands and a mind too.

Forward clutches are always engaged when you are in 1-2-3-D. So they don't get as much wear. He's got a 408 and a Blower...that's an assload of instant torque and causes them to go quicker.
If I was going all out like you plan to, I'd go for the Blue Plates. The Altos are too thin for good heat dissipation IMO and the reg Hi-Energy's don't have the holding capacity as the Blue Plates.
You killed your band by an accident, not via power. I don't see a band going unless it drags on the drum.
3-4 is weak as insufficient fluid flow w/ power increases. The TransGo kit you got should help that a lot. OH YEAH... when you pull this apart toss those load release springs. That helps the 2-3 shift and prevents centrifugal apply of the pack when not wanted.
The input drum is weaker than the input shaft, it's aluminum...
Get you an aluminum 1-2 accumulator piston. It's about $10

I will prolly get the billet OD servo and keep the vette intermediate servo to keep the 1-2 shifts tame. I will be pulling that washer out of the accumulator too. That 1-2 shift with the washer in there is a little stiff now that TQM is gone. I think it would be barking tires if it weren't slipping like that.
I will prolly try and do this stuff this weekend instead of the planned cam swap. I'll be over at a friends house doing this **** since he has a shop with a concrete floor, beats the hell out of my shade tree in the grass. His dad works on trannies too, but he likes manuals better.
If everything goes right .... I may be at the track the following weekend. I'm trying to get something going on then, if it all works out, you'll have to come over for a track visit. I'll keep ya posted if I end up at the track. There's a couple other guys from the board that might be coming too.
Chingon ... can you tell me where you got all that info on building a tranny you posted a while back???

I'm considering putting the blower on after this ... so that's why I want tobe for damn sure it's not going to slip.
You thinking the blue plates for the 1st gear set too?
They said they didn't have another drum, I asked about that and he told me the factory one was the only one. The band he's talking about is 30% wider and MUCH better friction material so he says and doesn't require the fat drum.
I sure hope he knows what he's talking about .....

Well if you have it apart...I'd go ahead with them. You'd be pissed if it'd slip due to the forward pack.
Just use a stock width band man. That wide one is gonna drag I'd think on the stock drum.

They said this one doesn't need the bigger drum. Since the band seems to be a weak spot, I'd feel safer with the better band anyways.
Now that I've thought about it .. I bet the reason mine doesn't bark like yours does is cause of that band slipping ever since the shift kit. Before I pulled those spacers out of the servo assembly, it would bark them.
