Yea, when you cut them you have to get them just right, and definitely file the ends and run a tap over them or they can be a PITA to get started when threading them in, which sucks even more when they have some form of thread sealer on them spreading all over the place.

naw just put a nut on it, cut it, then taper the edge a hair, and back the nut off.

That would work good, but the "nut" in this case is the cylinder head..lol and finding a match for most is a pita...

A basic metric tap and die set will have the die needed for cleaning up the threads. I always thread my die on there chop the bolt to length then back the die off and Ive got a nice clean set of threads.
