The way to tell the 6.0 motors, they will have aluminum heads, the numbers on them is 317, besides the 99-late 01, which are steel head motors... Yes denalis have the lq4 in them.. Why do you want a 4l80 in such a light truck??? A built 60 will be more then enough, unless you plan to make a *** load of hp

In general, the Denali’s ’01 thru the ’07 Classic’s had LQ4’s except the ’05 + Sierra Denali’s that came equipped with the LQ9. Stay away from the ’99/’00 models, as they had the iron heads and long crank. The crank is not that big of an issue as long as you are sure that you are going to use a 4L80, but if you’re not sure, just stay with a newer model. As stated, when looking for a LQ4, just look for “U” in the vin number. If you were to get lucky and find a vehicle with “N” in the vin, you would have a LQ9 on your hands as long as the vehicle has not been molested. But as was also already stated, if you want a LQ4/4L80 combo, it would be the easiest to just look for a 2500/3500 equipped truck and get all of your parts at once, it could save you some headache in chasing small components and insure parts compatibility.
