Picked up a 6.0L for my 1/2 ton, now what...
#1
My '05 1/2 ton currently has an 5.3L that has no nuts whatsoever. SO I am swapping out gear's and possibly the entire rear end out of a VHO with the 9.5 ring gear. Anyway, in the meantime I picked up a shortblock 6.0L , with 2100 Miles on it. I thought the ad said it had 21000, but ended up being 2100. I am thinking of giving it some more cubes as well, as I need a TORQUE MONSTER. So, I plan on throwing a 4.00 crank at it, and maybe just a hone of the cylinders with such low miles. BUT, if I wanted to go .030 over, is this block capable of going that much, or should I stick with . 010 or .020 over or?????? And that is just in case it needs it, but by looking at, I do not think it will need anything but a hone job. Any suggestions out there, such as heads, cam (I have a 02 LS6 cam already, but thinking it will not give me the power down low where I want it) Also, at what power level will I need bigger injectors and fuel pump. I know the 4l60 will ive for about 30 minutes after I get the 408 in there, but I will cross that bridge when I get there. ALSO, looking at WAY down the road adding a turbo or blower, so I want to keep compression @ 9 to 9.5-1 so when I do add the turbo/blower, it will be ready to rock and roll. I should have bought a 3/4 ton, but I am past that now and have to make do with what I have....
ON edit, I picked up this shortblock for $300, then I gave him a 440 Moapr big block on trade, so I got the 6.0L for $150. That being said, $300 is a good deal for a shortblock right? And if, since this guy takes trades, you guys looking for a 6.0L thsi guy could take care of you. He also has a couple of ALUMINUM 6.0L blocks also. 8.1's, Duramax, Allison tranny 4l80's, EVERYTHING. What do youguys think????

Fun....well, I just need more truck, and I posted elsewhere about this, and I SHOULD have bought the 3/4 1 ton, BUT, I had an 03 Powerstroke Dually, and was to big for my wife to drive, and since I haul a single car trailer with my car and tools (@ 6000 LBS) I thought this truck would be more than enoough....WRONG!!!!!! I do have the hookup with this guy if anyone is interested....
Aluminum 6.0's 8.1's Duramax's Allison's 4l80's 5.3' 4.8's also Ford stuff, Dodge stuff....etc......

Ill do some digging Ive always heard not to go past 30 over but I think there is a guy on here that went past also try the search button. As far as heads I would get a good 5 angle job and springs and be done with them for your app they are allready setup. As far as cam Id think around 232 would be max duration around .500 lift and low lsa for TQ I would call a ginder and tell em what you want, maybe VHP they seem to have some good non extreme cams but they are gas hungry or TR.
Man there used to be so many guys on here around 10 months ago you would ask a question like this and they would know just the setup.
WHERE HAS EVERYONE GONE?

"All of the 6.0L blocks from '99-'04 are made of cast iron and have the number 12551364 along with 6.0L cast on the block itself. Most of the '05 blocks are cast iron, too, but the Chevy SSR, the Corvette and the GTO all came with an aluminum 6.0L block in '05.
These blocks already have a 4.0? bore, so they're the best alternative for the guy who wants a bigger motor for his car as long as he's willing to put up with the additional weight (65 lbs.) of the iron block. The only other way to build a big bore motor with a stock block is to buy one of the new 6.0L aluminum blocks, but that's bound to be real expensive.
No matter which 6.0L block you use, don't plan on boring out it out more than .010?, because the cylinders are on 4.40? centers so the walls are pretty thin and the cylinders are so close together that head gasket sealing will become an issue, too."
Seems to be a bunch of good GENIII info at that site...

.030 over will still allow you to bore it another .03 over if need be if you mess up the cylinder walls. A low lsa cam will be the ticket for low end grunt. Talk to Richard at West Coast Racing Cylinder head he can get you some good heads and is very knowledgable on cams. He swapped 6L in his truck for just what you are tlaking about. He knows his stuff. Anything over 230 you will start running into valave to piston clearance issues. Anything else you want to know?
