When you're done changing the exhaust, tune will fix the crackle.

I have Lts ORY and am running an 18" Magnaflow(oval) dumped at the axle and I love the sound, especially at WOT.

Exactly.
If your talking about a popping thats occurring while your on the throttle and gets worse the higher the rpms go its because your running rich. Your hearing the unburnt fuel reignite in the headers.
Mines doing it now that i have my cam in but haven't had a chance to retune it yet.

Dumping your exhaust behind the axle won't be as bad on drone as dumping it before the axle. There's a lot of good mufflers to choose from, just needa find some sound clips and see what you like. personally I like Borla, Corsa, and Magnaflow.

i say magnaflow also. my tahoe with stock manifolds, no cat, and magnaflow sounded great. nice deep idle but at wot it was loud and cruising is almost as quiet as stock. i've rode in some trucks with flowmasters and the drone is just unreal. this is with stock outlet and duals out the rear. IMO flowmaster drone =

I have super 44s they have a deep sound to them they do have some drone though, as far as poping it doesnt but there is a crackling sound if you rev it with no load on it like in park I was told that the shorter the pipe the less poping and crackling so dumping before the axle should help, but will be extremly loud in the cab.

Well after reading other posts (and since I love the way bluecajuns truck sounds) I think I'm gonna go with hooker aerochambers. Does it make a difference if you y into 1 muffler or true duels and h-pipe into 2 mufflers? Also with no cats what do you do with the O2 sensors leave them off or use them?

dont get an aerochamber, it really sounds like a thousand BBs rolling around at certain RPM. its really disgusting. Get a small case magnaflow (14") and never look back. I had bullets then flowmaster and nothing could get close to the old magnaflow on my 97 I used to have. Small case magnaflow is a real deep tone without the rattle like sound of the aerochamber.

Haha i think I know what you are getting at

after my swap- new setup the exhaust is different instead of 2100-2300 rpms slight crackle its now at 3000 and goes to about 3200. its hard to explain in words how the exact sound is but its not bad at all I think but that my opinion

I was also told by a old motor guy that me milling my heads would make it be louder.
