Default PCV Oil Catch Can on N/A 5.3 fills FAST...

I recently added an oil catch can to my N/A 5.3 to try to combat a bit of blue smoke I was seeing at start-up as per suggestions from some members on another forum. I have it plumbed in as seen on this TBSS.

http://www.billetprototypes.com/TBSS...n_Install.html

I basically removed the hose leading from the "pcv" to the intake and plumbed the catch can inline. The hose in question is also seen here.

Anyways, I drove 100 miles today and figured I would check the can for the heck of it and was surprised to see it was full. Could I really be getting that much blow-by? I currently have 153k on the motor and otherwise it runs great. I usually add a qt. of oil within an oil change interval (go 5k-7k on full synthetic). Any help would be much appreciated...this is a bit alarming. Also, is there something wrong about how I have my can plumbed in? Thanks in advance!

Holy **** dude. What style catch can are you using and please post a pic of it hooked up. I get about a TABLESPOON of oil every 1k miles in mine. I drain mine only once a year. I don't know what to say. Plug off your PCV line, open up your oil cap and start the truck. Do you get any puffing out of the fill cap from severe blow by?

It is a UPR can from Billet Depot.

Here the can is disassembled...

Plugging the PCV and taking off the oil cap, I do get a bit of smoke out the oil fill @ idle. However, w/ this much oil collecting in the can, I would think I'd be re-filling my oil every thousand miles or so, which has not been the case...or I would see some noticeable smoke when driving daily.

As mentioned, the can is installed in the PCV to intake line. Can is mounted on the pass. side of the block in an existing front hole and lines are run ti it from the fixed orifice PCV (non-ball type) on the rear of the driver side head to the barb on top of the intake. Sorry, no pics at the moment, but each line to the can is ~3' long FWIW.

I can't even fathom it filling that fast. Maybe your check valve is blown?

Something sure isn't right...which check valve would you be referring to?

Could I even collect that much oil/water mix in 100 miles? It was pretty thick which made me think it was mostly oil...was also decently warm during my trip, ~55-60*.
