Default Patriot Stage II Heads

I am considering purchasing a set of Stage II Patriot 6.0L heads from a freind of mine here locally. They have 2.02/1.57 valves and 72cc chambers. I eventually plan to couple this setup with a nice cam.

I've used the search button and found that the valve size is pretty big for the stock bore size of a 4.8L/5.3L. Would these 2.02/1.57 valves work? If not, can you just switch out the valves to a smaller diameter? This setup will also be powered by a 125-150 shot of nitrous, so keep that in mind. I plan on also milling the heads to retain compression or even gain some.

What do you guys suggest?

I don't have a set personally but I talked to a guy w/ a SS Camaro over the weekend and he had a set and he told me they were junk... he warned me not to waste my money on the Patriot's...

Just relayin a message... and tryin to be of some help... hopefully some others can chime in with a helpful word...

Hey DeckHand,

That head is to big man. 2.02 valve on a 4.8's bore. Overkill bud. Those heads are meant to fit a 6.0L w/ a 4 in bore. Also, those chambers will kill your CR and power. Our heads run a 61 and a half chamber

Can you swap valves to a smaller diameter? I could also mill the heads to raise compression.

6.0 heads will not flow well on your smaller bore 4.8 due to the compression chamber overlapping the cylinder bore.

You want to match valves to port volume, so swapping wouldn't do the trick. Milling isn't going to have a big enough effect on your compression.

Just run a high compression with your nitrous.

Check your port volumes before you buy heads. Some use bigger than others. Smaller will lead to higher velocity.

02reaper is having a set done by FMS. I believe his will be done soon, so you might want to check with him. He went with stock valves on a 5.3 head. 2 in valve is the biggest thats going to fit on our bore, but I'd stay below 1.94 if you can have a custom valve made to that diameter.

4.8 and 5.3 heads are exact replicas of each other, including valvetrain components correct?

I second that... I don't want to badmouth a company, but I'd have to put in the suggestion to do a little reading in the "internal" section... There seem to be some things that have been 'brought to light' recently.

I don't know about the hardware compatibility with those heads and 4.8's, but in reference to my above reference.... it sounds like it would be an easy enough fix to "bullet proof" the heads since they're uninstalled.
