Default Parish, Big Tex, XLR8, Spark retard limit??

I want an easy way to test how much timing I can run before I mess with the timing tables.

If I changed the spark retard limit tables to say +17 deg, would that take my timing up to 17? (12-16.5 now)

Would KR still pull timing? If not, would it still show up so I could let off?

I just want to do this so I can know what to shoot for when I start modifying the tables.

Without looking at it, I think that number is the number of degrees that cam be pulled by spark retard. So if it is 8, then 8*s of timing can be pulled. I haave mine a 6*s. Most trucks have a higher number. I looked at a friends 98 Z28, and it had 4*s!

This particular table has -10 pretty much across the board. So i assumed it meant timing can be pulled down to -10 degrees. Or 10 atdc????

OK, then put it up to 17.

just take the high octane table and add 2 to the entire thing and go for a log, you can work on the sections later.

with efilive you can add timing on the fly. a delta of 2deg, 4deg, 6deg, anytime you want, it is prety sweet. good for the dyno i bet

Ok, I'll try that. I hate this, the high temp here has been below 32 degrees here for over a month. I want to start getting my timing down, but I'll probably just have to change it back when it warms up again.

Is more timing always better if theres no KR? I need to get one of the new g-techs to see if my changes are doing any good.

That EFI live sounds pretty sweet! I checked out my EASE, and in my bidirectional controls, the only really usefull thing I can do is lock the converter. Wish I could do timing.

The only time I saw the spark retard table come into play was on the shifts. When it was at -10 I would see -10 degrees on the shifts. When I changed it to 23 I would see 23 degrees on the shifts. It didn't seem to affect the knock retard at all.

So did it effect timing at all other than the shifts? Were you running more than 23 degrees during the rest of your run?

Nope, it only seemed to affect the timing during shifts. I am only running 23 degrees of timing since anymore than that cause massive knock retard. I actually get knock retard at 23 degrees but, it's not very bad.

Looks like you either need to upgrade that knocker, or find someone who can tune.

Notice the rpms, advance, knock and MAF:
