Old, worn LQ9 needing an upgrade...

After being dicked around by a few local machine shops and keeping track of every penny spent on an engine I assembled myself I would not go that route again. Ordering a crate motor from a reputable source with a warranty is what I will do from now on. In the long run you save money and a lot of headaches.

Next motor will be bought, at least at minimum the bottom end will be bought from a reputable builder.

FYI, First engine i ever "assembled" was with my brother late one night 10 hours before a big mud race.
Running wrong oil wiped out the cam lobes from the flat tappet lifters.
Took engine out and apart, pressure washed it, got most the metal out of it. New bearings, we didnt check any clearances at all. Assembled with a pneumatic impact. Mains, rods, head bolts, everything with impact.
It was a 2 bolt main 355ci with a big new cam now, big single plane intake, 900 carb. TH350 we threw together with a 4500 stall. AC Condenser was the new transmission cooler.
That thing ran for 4 years beating the crap out of it every weekend. A little over 8700 rpms it would flatten out and just stop making power so thats where he held it. He didnt give a crap if it let go, and of course it never gave him any problems.
Delo 15w40 with a zinc additive and some Lucas oil stabilizer was the answer to a longer life in it.
Then i threw together a stock 6.0 turbo truck and would go out and murder them on the dirt drags. That was the fun days.
Built a room in my dads shop and started putting LS's together with much more care and measuring than my first SBC. They are pretty simple really. Just need a few measuring tools and a clean work space with some patience.
Only had one problem with a pressure relief sticking in a oil pump and trashed some bearings. Now i know to take each oil pump apart and clean them to make sure the relief plunger moves smooth.
