How much oil does your truck use between oil changes? My truck has about 92k on it and they have been hard since 56K when I got it. I let the wife drive it today and she called me before she got out of the driveway and said the low oil light was on.I know it used about 1/2 quart between oil changes but I put 1 qt in there and just did touch the stick

 

I have the same problems but little worst. My truck uses 1qt @ every 350 miles like 2qts @1000 miles. Also it smokes blue and white smoke whe hard accelaration.The bad thing it just has less than 32k miles. I took it to 2 dealers the first one their service sucks the service manager is an A**HOLE. The 2nd they have good service and they are taking care of it. They are runnig an OIL COMSUMPTION test, they Changed the oil and place silcone around the dipstick ,oil cap, oil filter, and drain cap. If problem is beyond limits they are tearing the engine apart and find what the problem could be.....

We ran into this at work a while back with an 8.1 using 2 qts between oil changes. I called GM and they said that the more gas used, the more oil used and the customer used alot of gas from week to week. I havent changed anything but I still drive about 350-400 miles a week.

 

What do you mean by the more gas used the more oil used too? Did they fixed the problem.

I think it was said that every 100 gallons of gas some oil will be used, there for somebody that is constantly driving or using their truck hard will experence oil usage higher than a daily driver to and from work. I showed the customer the form for oil consumption that had to be doccumented and he was cool with it.

 

i don't know what to say my dad owns a 2000 GMC with a 5.3L it has 100K miles and last month he drove to CALI from TEX round trip and his oil level on the motor was just perfect. He drives his truck for long trips only and he gets on it all the time 80+mph and when i used it i make the truck SCREAM i am suprised no oil comsumption. Now you know where i getting too

my buddy said when I left work he could see blue smoke out the tail pipes... not what I wanted to hear.

 

Ive noticed when Im constantly hammering on it( alot of wot runs) I get increased oil consumption I have noticed at night I get some smoke too sometimes. Im pritty sure its just the pcv sucking it into the intake and its getting burned. If you pass a leakdown test thats the culprit. Some guys use ketch cans others tear apart the top half. I just put in an older ball type pcv to see if it helps I think it has a little but there is still oil in the pcv top.

Anyone tried putting one of those breathers in place?

 

Before I went radical on the cam I had absolutely zero oil consumption. Even running out to 4500 to 5000 mile oil changes and this was w/ over 150K on the clock. After the big cam and springs. I use about 1.5 to 2 qts. every 1000 miles or so. Truck in sig...Was using Mobil 1 oil, now just this last oil change switched over to Castrol Syntec because Mobil 1 got too expensive since last oil change. Oh and I drive between 650 to 910 miles a week...Zed

 

Ive had the exact same experience didnt use a drop until the h/c install
