Found a gen 4 6.0 with 80K on it, DOD has to go but I`m seriouly considering this one, it has LS3 heads but I would replace those for cathedral port heads I think. Rounded up an engine stand guess I`m gunna buy a hoist, gave all that crap away decades ago to make room.

No the rings where not gapped for boost they where stock LM7 pistons and rings. Went 15 years with a Magnuson Radix no problem at 7 lbs but only 2 years with turbo at 12 lbs then 4 months on 14 lbs. So that brings up a good question, how critical is it to gap rings for boost in a daily driver that only sees max boost accasionnaly.

Ouch. Yeah, what happened here is your piston ring got *real* warm from all that increased cylinder pressure, butted the ends together, folded over and wrecked your ****. Gapping your rings for boost is absolutely 100% a critical step in boosted engine survival. .026 for the top, .028 for the bottom give or take.

It's all good man, lesson learned. Assuming your engine block can be cleaned up, have the machine shop try and finish the bores to a common size that is supported by the aftermarket. Summit makes an entire rotating assembly for the LS that is reasonably priced. Or just go pistons and rods assuming your crank survived unscathed. The stock crank is good for ~1,000HP give or take.

Or find another LS from a JY and pull it all apart for some super fun ring filling.

I never gapped the rings In my 6.0. It lasted over 300k miles with a turbo on it. And towed with it every weekend.
water/methanol injection prolly kept it alive tho cause it was staying in boost for a long time pulling hills with a heavy trailer
