I`m at 14 psi now on 93 octane, engine was tuned by Pat G at 12 pounds. Wish I had him print out info but I forgot the timing info.

Drained the oil last night and found more metal on the drain plug magnet than I like and a couple of small chunks of aluminum.

Still have not had time to tear into engine yet but found a rebuilt 6.0 shortblock for 1800.00 in the Houston area. Got the guy to send me some pictures of the cylinders but I`m kinda concerned about scratches in the bores especially for a fresh rebuilt block. Check out this photo, should I be leary of this one?

Meh.....

I mean, for $1800 and "rebuilt" that's not great. In the grand scheme we have seen worse make a billion HP and last 100+ passes

if that had been my motor I would have bored it, maybe stroked it! But then 5yrs later I would put it in an entirely different chassis and it would run on 4cyls..... wait, I've seen this before

is the motor close enough for you to go see? Those might just be rubbed spots and not actually scratched. For the money it's not perfect, but I doubt you'll have an issue if you decide to run. Knowing it's there there is the worst part of the ordeal lol

Does it have anything special?
I would just find a JY engine and then rebuild it yourself, I think you would come out on top in the long run + you would know exactly what is in it etc. etc. since you did it.
My $.02

I wouldn't trust a rebuilt motor from anyone but an engine builder. I've bought way way too much junk.

Get a rebuild from a legit source or just get a JY engine.

That "rebuild" looks like a Krylon "rebuild": dingleberry hone on a block that had a serious steel failure in it. Cam lobe/lifter going down, stuff like that. Garbage.

It's ruined.

No way I would consider a block "new" and/or "runnable" with that many vertical scratches in it that are that serious. Esp with boost. Keep looking.

Personally I'd just look for the motor out of a grandpa truck that he drove off the side of the road, and just run it as-is, if I could find such a thing. No sense in "rebuilding" anything if you don't have to. The $$$ difference between a CHERRY 5.3 JY short block and a "core only" one is AHELLUVALOT LESS THAN the cost of a "rebuild".
