Default New to LS1TECH...and some questions....

Great site you guys have here.....I have been on the Truckworld board for about two years and have learned a great deal there but after purchasing this new truck I went looking for somewhere that specializes in the newer trucks and motors....Well, I guess I found it...so here's my questions

1...the '99's have Iron heads right ??

2...how do you make the damn "clunk" in the driveline go away...is it the slip-yoke or something else ??

3...Will old style long-tube headers clear the frame and driveline on the newer bodys ??..I have a set of Hooker headers from a '74 chevy street truck that I would like to use if possible....I only want to use them because I already have them and I am inherently cheap...an exhaust is cheaper to fab then the newer headers are to buy...

4...what are some STOCK dyno numbers for the 6.0 liter LQ4 motor....is the claimed 300 HP really there or is GM fibbing a little

5...what are some good first steps to take to get a 5600 LB brick into the low 14's...high 13's

thanks for any input or advice you can give

99-00 6.0L's had the iron heads.

Old style headers won't work.

NAWWWWWS!

I can't answer #s 2/4 for you.

Welcome to the site.

I think I can help with the rest of your questions.

Check this thread out. It might have some useful info about the driveline clunk.

Check this thread out to see how to put your 5600 lb truck into the 13's

I don't think your old headers will work because the new motors have equally spaced exhaust ports unlike the older small block where the center two were siamesed.

Here are the only dyno numbers from a stock 6.0L motor that I know of on this site. If you figure in the driveline loss thru the 4L80E and 14 bolt I'd say the motor is putting out well over the rated 300hp.

Hey I also have a ECSB 2500hd 6.0l 4:10s only mods are hypertech and descreened maf. I haven't run it because the track is closed . but i have raced a 2003 nissan ser spec v with intake and exhaust from a stop to 100+ mph and pulled on him buy a full truck length from second gear to the end {yes he was racing me he even passed a car in the right lane on the shoulder then i stopped racing } that car can run between 15:30 and 15:70 so how should i do in the 1/4 ? I weighed my truck at the stone yard at 6300 with a full tank and two people I would also like to add that i have no traction problems i can flat foot it from a stop and it just go's no wheel spin no nothin if i load the converter and let go it just chirps

Thanks for the info...the only mods I have currently are a modified GM intake tube..I cut the offending appendages off, smoothed the cuts and filles the holes with body filler, and a descreened MAF...
I wish I could say I don't have traction problems....driving around Las Vegas is an excercise in frustration..every dead stop gets me spinning the tires...and not all of these are full throtttle launches...if I load the converter I can (and do) sit and spin into 3rd gear or leave rubber for 100' or more...and the tires are pretty good...or were
I am not trying to brag here either...believe me....I wish my traction was better

This is off topic, but are you really from Death Valley? I've been there a couple times. Last June when I was there it was 114 degrees with a 15mph wind. It felt like someone lit a torch in front of my face!

All I can say is you and your truck have gotta be tough to take that every day for a couple months out of the year!

Yeah...I really do live in Death Valley....I live and Work at the Furnace Creek Inn and Ranch Resort right in the middle of the valley....and Yes...It is really freaking hot in June, July and August( 115-130 with 20-30 mph winds most days - kinda like living in a hair dryer ) but you learn to live with that...from late September to late April we are 70-80 deg during the day with temps in the 50's at night...it's pretty much paradise during the winter...and the free golf dosen't hurt either
