Are 4.10's really an option in a reg cab now? Sweet, i may have to look into a reg cab 4x4 base model with a 5.3 to start another project.

Snake, I think they are only an option on the 4x4 trucks but I could be wrong. I know for 2005 the standard axle is 3.42 with 4.10 optional. With the taller tires on the 4x4 model the 4.10 really does help with acceleration. (taller tires effectively make the rear end ratio higher; lower numerically)

I know there putting 17" rims on now, but are they really taller? My stock tires were like 31" tall already. I have an appointment at the dealer today, so i'll check out the 05's and see what i can get. And i'm curious to see the new e-fan setup.

Snake, it seems that the 4x4 trucks and 2x4 trucks all have the same tire/wheel options but in 2x4 form you cannot get 4.10 gears (according to chevrolet.com). I chose the 4.10 stock to keep the engine closer to the power band (engines are most efficient at peak torque). Since peak torque on these LS engines are rather high compared to the old 5.7 Vortec, this will keep the transmission from downshifting from 4th to 3rd to 4th, etc. So far on my first 2 tanks of fuel I have averaged just under 17 mpg and once it breaks in and I add some mods it will only get better. Im more than satisfied so far.

Welcome Cakes, I'm a newbie too, and almost have the exact same truck. (cept mines black with 3.73's)

I Just bought mine like 3 weeks ago. Were are you in Mass? Im in Fitchburg.

I've been wanting to start modding sooooo bad since I found this site. This has also been my first non-performance vehicle, and my first automatic. I sold my 04 Subaru STI for this truck.

Anyway, I just ordered a Corsa exhaust....well i ordered it like 3 weeks ago and TByrne's is taking forever. I keep getting the run around from them.

I also want to add a shift kit and get rid of TM. Brakes kinda suck too.

Was thinking about trying some steel braided lines, as they really helped out on my bikes.

So far I love the truck. I do have some vibrations at 65 or so. Also a damn squeek coming from the front suspension I think. I'll have to find that soon!

Anyway take care, and Its kinda cool I found someone exactly in the same boat as me. (even in the same state!)

Later
JayB

I live in Agawam right outside of Springfield where Six Flags is. I would love to start modding right away but I am a little worried about the warranty so I think I may wait. The bug may come before the warranty is up so who knows....good luck with the truck! Im sure you will be happy with it. Oh yeah what year do you have?

My Trucks an 04. Stickered for 31,000 bought it for 20,000. I wasn't even really looking for a new truck, (was looking for a used one) but just stopped in to see what they had. With all the incentives ,and stuff going on, I got a sweet deal!

Its a black regular cab, 4x4 short bed, LS Model. 5.3 /locking rear with 3.73's.

I already tinted the yellow crap in the headlights, (which was a major PITA !)and I am painting the bowtie emblem black today. I also want to paint the lower valance, and the upper bumper cover. I figured I would do all the cheap cosmetic mods first...to keep me from buying a supercharger or turbo kit right away!

Take care,

JayB
