Default New Exhaust Pics and Vids!

Well I finally got around to fitting all of my exhaust parts together, which I've had sitting around for a while, and I'm extremely happy with the results. I'm still running the StainlessWorks LT's with "catted" y-pipe, but I cut off the old Gibson SI/DO cat-back which has been dumped before the axle for a few years now. It sounded decent when it was dumped with cats, but once the cats mysteriously emptied out it just sounded ridiculous...loud, raspy, poppy, redneck sounding...horrible tone.

The current setup consists of the 3" flange and pipe from the old Gibson system, QTP 3" dump pipe, DMH electric cutout, Magnaflow 12259 18" 5x8 SI/SO muffler, with a Magnaflow 3" Chevy/GMC truck universal tail pipe, cut and dumped after the axle. I don't know how to weld, so I had to use a few stainless butt-joint and lap-joint style band clamps. The only part of the exhaust that isn't stainless is the exhaust hanger after the muffler, which is a universal style deal that attaches to a 3" U-clamp. Eventually, when I have some dough, I'd like to get everything welded up and have some new stainless hangers (which I already have) welded on, but for now this will have to do...I couldn't stand the way it sounded before and it had to go.

The exhaust note is perfect now IMO, not loud at idle, but you can still hear it, and it roars at WOT. I drove by tdrumm's house to give him a listen and get his opinion on how it sounded compared to his old rcsb's ASM's/factory y-pipe, Magnaflow cat-back set-up and he said that it's definitely louder than his old setup was, but you can definitely hear that tight Magnaflow tone.

I haven't wired in the switch for the cutout yet, hope to get to that tomorrow...gonna open up the video recorder that was a gift from Lexus, and see what I have to do about charging it up, making a vid, and getting the vid on to my computer, so hopefully I'll have some vids up asap.

Anyway, enough of another one of my long-winded over-explanations, on to my other favorite PT.net past time...pic whoring!

Last piece of Gibby still in use

I had to notch the tail end of the muffler to get it to clamp down on the tail pipe

DMH 3" Electric Cut-Out

Magnaflow tail pipe, not in it's final position (it got dark before I could take that pic)

Magnaflow muffler as seen through wheel well

Hopefully I'll get the chance to button this up tomorrow

Looks pretty beautiful....

Where are you getting your clamps from? I'm looking at doing something similar to this (setup will be completely different... but I can't weld for ****)

Thanks man I got the clamps from Summit, I think that the butt-joint clamp is just Summit brand, while the lap-joint one (which appears to be of better quality), said "Torcite" on the box IIRC. I can look for the Torcite box if you want...the Summit one just came in a brown unmarked box.

BTW, that tailpipe was pretty cheap, I looked it up on Magnaflow's website (PN 15047) and shopped around until I found it at the best price...can't remember where I got it, but I did give DV2000NJ the info on it at the time, not sure if he still has it though as it was about a year ago almost...

I saw them on summit the other day, but I was hoping you knew of a place cheaper, or if we had a sponsor that had them.

....

Hope mine comes out as good as yours did.

EDIT:

I guess they're only about $8 a pop... I was looking at the Borla clamps the other day... little pricey at $22

I'm sure that they're cheaper somewhere, but not sure if any of our sponsors carry them...I kinda remember searching TSP, SDPC, Speed Engineering, etc and coming up empty though...

Thanks for the compliment...I'll be sure to keep everybody updated on how well it holds together with those clamps. So far no leaks (knocking on wood, fingers crossed )

Looks good. Where did you get those exhaust hangers from? I looked all over when i was building mine and couldnt find any anywhere. i ended up reusing some off the stock exhaust and buying some rod to bend.

Perfect sounding for you - Redneck.

Ahh yes, u do love to pic *****. And soon, you'll be a vid ***** too.

Save youself some trouble, send me those exh. hangers in these pics; like black04, where did u score yours from? Or as he said, didja just reuse some off the stock exhaust & buy some rod to bend?

And I really could use that DMH cutout too.

dmelvin, IDK if those $22 Borla clamps u mentioned are what I have, but ya they're pricey, but nice to work with, as they prevent any unnecessary crimping on piping.

BH3, while I haven't searched TSP, SDPC, Speed Engineering, etc & coming up empty as u did, I also don't need any of them. Some reason that name sounds kinda close. Torctite maybe? Or Torqtite. It sounds really close to that name. I knew when I used some, they were of superior quality than any exh. clamp I've ever used. And therefore expensive. They're torsion clamps or torsion band clamps or torsion exhaust clamps. One of those names will get it.

No vids / sound clips?!?

You coulda, I bet ya had other plans for the night...
