Default new b questions for 01 5.3L

i'm kind of new with engine mod stuff so i have a couple questions. one) i keep reading about custom tunes. what is really done and where would i look at getting it done, how much power approximately should i look to gain and how much does a decent tune cost. 2) does it make any difference to cut out the screen on the MAF sensor? and 3) does getting rid of the egr help or hurt and what do you have to do to get rid of it? thanks for any help.
i have an 01 Silverado with a 5.3l and a k&n fipk.

do not take out the MAF screen

do not do the TB bypass, especially if you live up north

for a custom tune, like Nelson, he will mail you an updated PCM depending on what mods you have done to your truck. you said back your stock one. costs depends on year of truck. i am guessing $300-500 depending on your year. usually the newer trucks are more expensive. i heard that i custom tune is well worth the money. i don't have one, but all this info is what i have gathered from this website over the last few years
