need help with exhaust tech here!!
#1
Here it is i just bought an 05 z71 4x4 and want to put better exhaust on it headers back. I want dual exhaust straight out the back, but dont want to take my spare off. I also tow my boat with the truck so i need low end torque. I am thinking magnaflow cat back, any ideas about the headers? I am assuming that longtubes are out due to it being 4x4, this is my first truck modding experience any help is appreciated!

With my old exhaust setup I had stock manifolds/cats/collector... cut the exhaust off at the collector, attached a 40 series flowmaster 3" in dual 2.5 out muffler, and had a guy custom build my tailpipes. I think all in all, it cost me something like 250 total, I didn't have exhaust tips, so that's another cost you'll be looking at.

damn 250 isnt bad at all, being in ny though we have salt on our roads in the winter so i was leaning towards stainless. Are you talking long tubes or shorties? Is there any benefit to shorties over stock manifolds?

Things in rural Missouri are a little cheaper than in the city, also helps when the guy that did it is friends with your uncle lol.
We have salt on our roads in Missouri too... But like Josh said, the ceramic coated headers will last longer. A lot of people say there's no benefit to shorties over straight manifolds, I've never had them, so I couldn't say for sure.
I'm getting ready for my next exhaust, I'm going to run long tubes, 3" stainless tubing into an xpipe into 2 40 series flowmaster 3" in and out and into turndowns. Just something different than most of the people around here (people around here are so uncreative with their vehicles).

well I dbl checked specifics for road salt. stainless is usually Thicker and better for salt exposure while Ceramic coated reduces chance of rust as long as the coating don't get rubbed off.
Ceramic will also keep the heat in better than stainless. With stainless the engine bay will heat Soak a lot more.
Edit: BTW pretty much every company that makes a 2x4 header for these trucks make a 4x4 header as well.

Ceramic coating isn't a substitute for stainless. It's a thermal barrier coating. A side effect is that it also happens to give limited corrosion resistance, but that's not what it's for. If you scratch it, the substrate will be exposed.
You can ceramic coat either stainless or mild steel headers.
