You definitely want stainless in our neck of the woods...I have StainlessWorks LT's and catted y-pipe, and they're a direct bolt-in. Been running them for about 6 years, 4 of them through New Jersey winters. I didn't notice any loss of torque down low, but definitely felt gains up high. My cats are now gutted, but are still on there for NJ state inspection.

Well with that price range you've got some good options. Whatever you decide to go with, just make certain it suits your needs down the road. As far as shorties go, when the LS1 was introduced to the vette back in 97, a lot of people were disappointed when they found out shorties actually cut down on the power. These manifolds aren't a joke from the factory.

Ok, here is my 2 cents. i work at performance muffler in norman, ok. so I kinda know what I'm talking about. Longtube headers are the best bang for your buck. pace setters are cheap and give you the same performance as Gibson, hooker, etc. etc. As far as mufflers go it depends on what driving you do, where you live and how you use your car/truck. I'm guessing your not going to drop money into heads and cam right, then go with a flowmaster. as long as your cats are still on there. If your wanting stainless steal because of the conditions of where you live order a cat back. In oklahoma our weather isn't to bad. so we don't have to worry about it to much. Like I said choose what best fits YOU!, not your friends, YOU! If it was my personal truck I would go with longtube headers, and a 50 series flowmaster single in duel out. if you run true duels on these newer trucks you loos an a$$ load of tourqe. I found this out the hard way. They thing about maganflows is at full throttle it has the glass pack bla, also know as the hill billy blap. Like I said choice what you want. if you have anymore questions just shoot me a mesage.

Not sure how long you worked at a shop, but you have some learning to do. Gibson does not offer a long tube header( last time I checked) Header and true duals will do just fine, you just have to reflash the PCM.. Not all magnaflows sound like that. Muffler location, style of the muffler have alot to do with sound. I agree it is what he wants.. It will all have to be based on what he has to spend.. Flowmasters sound good, but are not a great performance muffler...

Straight from StainlessWorks, they're $866 for headers only, $1486 for headers w/ catted y-pipe, and $1114 for headers with ORY

Yea that is true, Gibson does offer headers but there only shorties, not all magnaflows sound like that true, but do you really want your truck to sound stock? i know personaly I don't. I only like flowmaster because of the sound. Performance wise they suck. The flow charts from magnaflow compared to flowmaster are crazy differant. I like tourque so I can launch better. But that is just my personal prefrance. Yes I do have a lot to learn, but flowmaster and magnaflow both sen us a letter saying don't run true duels on these newer trucks. I'm just going off information I have recieved from both of them. It just depends on what he is wanting. Just do research and call around is the best advice I can give. We have been seeling those new Dynomax VT mufflers at our shop and I tested on on a camero and it actually works, I would look into that. It's quiet at idle but at full throttle WWWWOOOOOOOOOAAAA! It's a little poppy but hey it's somthing to look into. accourding to the flow charts(which they can not lie about or they will get sued) it flows about 50 CFM's better.
