My 5.3 to 6.0 swap
#81
i just have a mail order tune from blackbear, I will need to send in my pcm if i need a retune. I had it tuned for this exact build. the escalade that the motor came out of was a drive by wire but I swapped my drive by cable intake and throttle body on to it, would that make a difference? maybe he tuned it for drive by wire instead?

Could be, I'm not sure; I got my tune from him, but my engine was factory-installed DBW so I'm not sure on the logistics of the throttle body swap. Do you anticipate making any more changes in the near future? If so you may want to invest in the Autocal; that's why I did it. Make updates to your tune with no downtime.

I just went and drove it around a little more, around town then on the freeway. I didn't floor it at all but a couple of times i gave it a quick 3/4 throttle and DAMN this thing pulls! Only revved it up to maybe 5000rpm but I can already tell it's TOTALLY different than the 5.3, even with my large tires this truck really pulls now!
Tomarrow I will be e-mailing justin at blackbear and ask him about the RPM issue. It also idles REAL low when I first turn it on but within a few seconds it starts slowly rising up to normal idle. just seems like the computer is not adjusting the idle air right or something..

The PCM may still be relearning idle, sometimes it can take a little bit of driving. There's actually an idle-learn procedure, but I can't remember the exact steps off the top of my head. I usually just take my truck out and beat on it a little bit, with the ac off and then ac on, then the idle clears up. The PCM usually needs to relearn idle when it, or the battery is disconnected. Did Justin mention needing and Crank Variation Relearn? If the Crank Relearn hasn't been done, that may have an affect also. Many times guys will not have a crank relearn done and not have problems, while others may experience a check engine light, or, a truck that doesn't idle, misses, and goes into REP mode. Back when I swapped in my first tuned 02 PCM my truck barely ran and went into REP mode until the crank relearn was done. You need either tuning software or a GM TechII to perform the crank relearn
If all of that checks out, there could be an issue with the IAC, possibly a chunk of carbon stuck in it, or even an air/vacuum leak at the throttle body or intake.

just talked to the chevy dealer, he said they will charge $130 to do the relearn procedure! pretty ******* ridiculous since i have been told it take like 10 minutes!!

I found a guy here in town that said he would do it for $50, im gonna drop it off to him in the morning. Justin with blackbear responded and asked what stall and cam I have.. haven't heard back from him yet.

justin just got back to me, he said he had slowed the idle drop speed to avoid any stalling. he said he put it on the safe side but it was apparently too much. Im gonna get the relearn done tomarrow and then mail the pcm to justin and hopefully after this everything will be in order! gonna drive it a little more today too just to see if anything changes or needs more adjustment..
