3000 miles later and its metal on metal knocking. new question. the crank and rods are the same as what is used in the 408 stroker correct? im going to get a 6.0 block and 408 pistons and rings and start over. going to sell the PRC heads for a set of AFR heads.

Do you have it torn apart already? How do you know the crank and rods are in good shape?

nope im getting a bore scope tomorrow to look in the cylinders. it was more of a can i reuse what i have with the exception of the pistons and rings. i can always have the crank polished when i have the new pistons balanced with the rotating assembly. just trying to see what i have to buy before i pull the engine. i may end up just having a broken valve spring or a dropped valve which is what it sounds like when its running.

yes, a 408 is same rods and crank as 383.

Sorry to hear you are having troubles. Let us know what you find out.

once i get the valve covers off and take pictures of the cylinders i will know what im looking at. wife said to scrap it build a 8.5:1 compression 408 with a maggie on it and quit my bitching. i cant imagine that i did anything wrong building it if it lived 3000 miles and survived 4 dyno pulls.

well i scoped the cylinders and #5 has a low hanging valve in front of the spark plug hole. guess the head is coming off. i hope the spring is broken and the piston is still ok.

how do you like the 383 as a daily driver?
where would you recommend to get the rotating assembly to do a 383?
