I have a 5.3 cam long tubes and ory that connects to factory pipe into a 50 series flowmaster single in dual out. I am wanting more sound at idle withough creating a drone master cruising. I like the was what I have all the way around now except I want it more noticeable at idle. More of the cam sound. I have put a flowmaster super 44 on there after the cam and didn't like it. It was slightly louder at idle but sounded terrible at wot. I know whith what I'm asking for its not going to be QUIET at cruise speeds but I like hearing it as long as its not a drone. I've seen a lot of people use magnaflow here but there are so many different sizes I don't know where to start. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction

 

I'm a big fan of jones mufflers now. Their max flow series is basically the same exact thing as magnaflows without the magnaflow stamp on the muffler. I'm currently running a single in dual out 14" case (mf2198) on my truck and i really like it. I'm still on stock manifolds with cats though, but i've also got an 18" case (mf2288) for when i put on headers and ORY in case the 14" case is too loud. or if i go with headers and a dual exhaust system i have a dual in dual out 18" case (mf2468). I purchased all 3 of these mufflers for less than what some single mufflers cost.

Putting a jones muffler on my dads truck in a couple weeks. I will let you know how it sounds.

I wanted to get a "Solo Storm" muffler for him, which is exactly what your talking about (more noise at idle and wot but quiet while cruising) but didnt want to pay the price.

 

Which magnaflow? 14 inch case?

 

The longer the muffler the quieter it will be. No one can really say for sure how loud a particular muffler will be on a particular truck. The Jones muffler I got for my dad measures 22" body and 28" overall I believe. I am hoping its just loud enough to be heard at idle but quiet enough that you can carry on a conversation or hear your music below 20 volume while crusing. We shall see. You can always add resonators if it is a bit too loud, if it is too quiet there is nothing you can do but change the muffler or add cutouts
