Default Muffler with headers,no drone/not too loud?

As the title reads I am going to put some long tubes on and keep the stock exhaust except for the muffler. I am looking for a deep tone that is not going to be loud in the cab or have drone.

I talked to Magnaflow and they suggested there largest muffler(22").

Also, I am looking to gain tq in the low and mid range, so I am assuming the 1 5/8 headers will be better then the 1 3/4.

Thanks, Kelly

personally to me id stick with the 1 3/4 for low end, the bigger the less back pressure and if its an otherwise stock motor you'll be fine, however if you have cam heads etc. etc. then yea 1 5/8 would be good just all depends on what you got..

I'm looking for the same thing as you kstitz. From what I have read if your going catless you will need two mufflers to keep the sound down in the cab. IMO the Pypes Race Pro has a little deeper tone then the Magnaflow and a lot cheaper. Their Race Pro is definitely worth taking a look at. For now I'm either going with one MVR46 or MVR36. I'm not to sure yet on the one I'm going with.

From what I have always heard 1 3/4 is for top end and bigger horsepower motors. 1 5/8 is better for low end and stock motors.

I am keeping my cats so i am sure that will mellow it a bit.

The guy who documented his OBX install said his 1 3/4 actually measured 1 5/8, I wonder if they are all the same.

I have heard anything 18" or above case lenght will be quiet when driving and idleing. Keep away from chambered ones as they do seem to drone pretty bad.
