Default more LS1 motor questions

Hey I may be picking up my 5.7L LS1 motor/block this weekend . It may seem like an idiotic question but I have been told may different things over the years, what is the difference between a short block and a long block ? Also would my stock truck exhaust manifold fit the ls1 motor just until I get the headers for it?
I'm going to build this motor from the ground up and I know most how it goes but I have never been into an LS1 and am sure I will run across something that I don't know. So I was wondering, what is the best instruction manual for a complete rebuild?
Thanks

a short block consist or well it depends who you talk to but mainly the block. crank, pistons, rods, possibly oil pan, pump, and chain.

But a long block will come with the intake, manifolds, heads, accesories.

yes your manifolds will work

dont remember the name of the book most use here
