Default Modded 6.0L vs a stock 8.1L when it comes to towing..

I plan on adding cam/valvesprings/headers/ORY/tune within two weeks. Will I be able to compete against the mighty 8.1L when it comes to towing? I keep hearing I should have looked for the 8.1L instead of the 6.0L for towing.

Yes, my dads 8.1L doesn't tow that great. So with your mods you will probably tow better then a stock 8.1L.

The allison is what makes the 8.1 trucks so great.
As far as the engines go, with the right cam you should be able get up to speed quicker than a stock 8.1

You'll be in the same ballpark. Once you get the weight rolling you'll be just as good.

The allison robs a lot of torque away from the 8.1L. I would take a 80E behind the 8.1L anyday. A Duramax and Allison make a great combo. We have owned both combinations, and the 8.1L with a 80E seem to have a little more get up and go then the 8.1L Allison.
