mod selection ?
#1
I have 4.8 chevy single cab and I just got a 5.3 motor to swap in it. Now the goals I have I think are simple for what i want as a dd.
#1 goal
lay down 330whp (fingers crossed budget build) in my daily just so that its a fun truck. I work with the 5.7 motors alot at work but no pretty much nothing about the 5.3 motors.
my mod list so far
lt headers -y pipe no cats
small cam that would let me keep my stock stall and stock valvetrain
cai
hwy tune
? is what grind cam would I need so that I have a slight lope and that is not to big for my 5.3 and also this motor having 145k im sure to swap out the water pump and some other stuff just because it easy to get to out the truck. Anybody thats landed near a little over 300whp please chime in I know the 5.3 is a great motor but I am pretty sure its gonna take alot more to get up like a 5.7. I have been reading but havent seen any good right ups on throw in camshafts wthout changin anything else.

if your looking for a good streetable cam the tr 220 or 224 cam but it depends on what converter you wato run as well. thats just a off the shelf cam. if you want you could also get like a pat-g custom spec cam. bolt on's with a cam should get you over 300 to the ground. if you didnt wanto use a new converter id run this
Comp Cams 212/218 LSx Cam "LOW LIFT"
or this
"TR 220-112" - 220/220 .551/.551 112 LSA

You're going to need new springs regardless and I would also get hardened pushrods at the same time.
You can use LS6 springs on certain cams with low lift. The LS6 springs are very cheap. On the 212/218 low lift cam you could run the cheap LS6 springs.
I probably wouldn't run the ls6 springs on the Tr220 cam as they don't have quite enough seat pressure imo.. Some people have gotten by with them, but I recommend getting some pac1218's, PSI, Manley, brian tooley, or similar around .600 lift max.

I go with the 212/218 but if he got the modified tbss stall it would still be perfectly streetable and run alot better. U can get 330 rwhp from a cam only 5.3 but 2wd I made 380 in my 2wd 5.3 heads and cam tho and I had a bigger cam for a 5.3 and or prc heads
